2018 Grafton Festival of the Bike
Grafton Cycle Cub proudly presents the inaugural Grafton Festival of the Bike. Help us celebrate the history of cycling and be part of what is truly going to be an amazing festival.
Wednesday May 9th:
The official opening will be held on Wednesday May 9th at the Clocktower Hotel, Grafton. This will commence at at 5:45pm. Nibbles will be provided by the Grafton Cycle Club. This will be followed by the screening of Mamil at the Saraton Theatre at 7:15. In order to secure the movie, you must purchase tickets using the above link. Please do so ASAP as we need at least 50 early sales to secure the movie's screening.
Thursday May 10th:
See the screening of Wheelmen of the Clarence at the Pelican Playhouse in Through St. South Grafton.This quirky, poignant documentary, which is the work of our very own Danny Loyden, gives a fascinating insight into the history and significance of cycling in the Clarence. It is a must see for any cycling enthusiast. We may also be fortunate enough to see some other small cinematographic offerings from the Loyden stable.
Friday May 11th:
Come and join the students and staff on the Grafton Public School initiative that encourages students to ride to school. 'The Bike Bus' is a supervised ride to school that occurs every Friday morning. Come ride with some great kids and dedicated staff who see the importance of getting on a bike. The bike bus leaves from the corner of Bacon St and Briemba St, Grafton at 8am. Once the bike bus has arrived at Grafton Public School there will be an assembly where riders participating in the Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic will have a chance to talk to students about cycling and be asked some questions from students.
Friday 9am: Heritage Cycle tours. Pedal your way through our magnificent city. A map and a guide will accompany you and give you a fun insight into our fabulous township. The Tour will depart Memorial Park, Prince St, Grafton at 9:00am.
Be part of the atmosphere of the atmosphere of the Australia's toughest single stage cycle race. Mingle with the teams and meet the riders that will undertake this gruelling event. Sign on will be at Toast Espresso, Prince St.
Saturday May 12th:
Come down and cheer on the starters as they take on the 228km course, climbing 3382m.
